MANILA, Philippines — The Marcos administration is committed to modernizing the country’s military, a Palace official said on Monday.
Asked about Palace’s confidence in achieving credible and reliable defense posture before President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. steps down from power, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro responded in affirmative.
“Opo, gusto po talaga natin na hangga’t maaari ay mabili po natin ang kinakailangan natin for the AFP modernization,” Castro said at a briefing.
“Lahat po iyan ay nanaisin po talaga ng ating Pangulo na magampanan po ang mga pangakong ito,” she also said.
Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. said in a recent regional defense forum the country was considering acquiring more missile systems.
Castro, still in the briefing, said the AFP’s plan to complete Horizon 3 of its modernization program relies on the budget approved by Congress.
