MANILA, Philippines – 1Pacman Party-list first nominee Milka Romero urges families who are making trips this Holy Week to check on travel schedules ahead and in detail, and prepare for contingencies so that the valuable time to be with family and to engage in reflection becomes hassle-free.
Romero’s advice comes as government agencies and transport providers are undertaking measures to brace for peak travel volumes.
As a young socio-civic, business, and sports leader who now takes the helm of the successful 1Pacman Party-list, Milka has had her share of traveling around the Philippines, especially in her time as member of the women’s national football team, and, now, as co-owner of two women’s professional sports teams, one in volleyball, and one in football.

“Holy Week isn’t just a long weekend — it is, for many of us Filipinos, time to be with family and to deepen our faith,” she said.
Milka, 32, is a millennial, and tech savvy. She advises families to take advantage of online updates that many travel and tourism businesses now provide to inform their clients.
“It is also wise to make contingency plans in case there are delays in flights or departures, which happen every so often,” she said.
1Pacman is essentially known for its push to youth development and grassroots sports, encompassing strides for better education, healthcare, and livelihood program.
In this Lenten period, because of the expected high number of travelers making their way to their hometowns, and taking advantage of the long break, there are many families who are also opting to stay put in their own places, and complete their religious activities such as Visita Iglesia in nearby churches. Nevertheless, family bonding continues with planned activities to be together.
“Even in these instances, planning for those family activities is also good. Families may opt to try new dishes on Easter Sunday, or create new arrangements in their own gardens, or whatever that can bring delight to the families, bearing in mind their own inclinations,” said Milka, adding that increased family interaction is truly valuable.
